Time to register for the 8th Swedish cohort meeting in Uppsala November 11-13th

November 11-12: Full days course on machine learning in epidemiology. Maximum 30 persons. This course is for researchers in epidemiology who are knowledgeble in traditional statistical methods, but wants an overview (and some hands-on) of machine learning techniques. Nov 13 conference day.
Description of the course (leader Måns Thulin, Statistikakademin Uppsala):
The goal of the course is to provide an introduction to machine learning and neural networks. We discuss challenges and solutions using examples from epidemiological datasets as a starting point.
Instructor-led tutorials are combined with exercises where participants get to build various models using R, ranging from tried-and-true classics to the latest models from cutting-edge research.
Content day 1:
Evaluation and tuning of machine learning models
Test-training splits, cross-validation
Feature engineering
Missing data, imbalanced data
Regularised regression (lasso)
Nearest neighbours models
Decision trees, random forests and boosted trees
Content day 2:
Deep neural networks
Embeddings
TabPFN and foundational models for tabular data
AI models for analysis of text data and images
Explaining model results
Pitfalls and limitations of machine learning and AI
This course will be held at Hubben, Room 3. Dag Hammarskjölds väg 38.
At the evening 12th there will be a course dinner at Orangeriet I Linnéträdgården.
